In 1993-5
Clare Crouchman lived in Japan and studied ceramics with a Japanese
potter. On her return to the UK she achieved an MA in Ceramics at
the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. During this time she combined
her previous experiences, including those from her first degree in
History and Art, to produce abstract work within a two-dimensional
format.
In her work she uses many different types of clay including T-material,
crank and Limoges porcelain. The clays are layered and inlayed into
each other to build up a richly textured image. Fine lines are etched
directly into the clay and a subtle use of oxides and glaze further
enhances the surface quality.
'Within my work I aim to harness a balance between order and disorder
and therefore to create a dynamic between the carefully selected elements.
Inspiration is drawn from rhythmical and repetitive patterns in the
landscape. Recently, a trip to New York has drawn my attention to
the urban landscape created by modern cities"
Clare is happy to undertake commissions from both private and corporate
clients. |
